Basic Production Milling

Syllabus

This 2 day course is intended to introduce the student to Mastercam's basic milling operations. Students will be introduced to the Mastercam system interface and create basic Wireframe geometry and 2 ½ D toolpath operations. Students will practice creating toolpaths on a variety of parts and simulate the machining operations using Mastercam's backplot and verify functions.

This course is an entry level course and no prior programming experience is necessary. The class will include instructor lectures and programming demonstrations to prepare students to be able to successfully complete a variety of guided tutorials that demonstrate Mastercam's basic milling functionality. Topics covered include:

Basic geometry creation – Points, Lines, Arcs, and Fillets
Transform operations – Move, Copy, Rotate, and Mirroring entities
Basic Toolpath Creation – Drill, Contour, Face, and Pocket
Stock Setup – Creating stock for setup and verification of toolpaths
Tool Definition – Creating and modifying tools
Simulation – Using the backplot and verify utilities to check your programmed toolpaths
